Life's Worries

Do you remember your first day of high school? How nervous you were? Thinking how ever would you be able to remember your locker combination, do it without anyone noticing your 3 or 4 tries, and still get to your various classes on time?

Or what about the first time you called the girl of your dreams? The anticipation of simply picking up the phone and dialing her number. Would she answer? What if she did? What would you say? Would she hear the nervousness in your voice?

What about your first-date with that special someone? While getting ready for the date, your heart skippin’ and jumpin’, you thought any moment you might get sick! You were pretty sure there was just no way you would get through the night without doing or saying something stupid!

All the nervousness of these events seem so trivial and silly now in our minds. Was it really that big of a deal if you didn’t open your locker on the first try? Was it really that big of a deal if the girl you liked didn’t answer the phone? Was it really that big of a deal if you did something silly on a date? The answer to all these questions is a resounding … “Not Really!” You now know how the story turns out! You lived through it!

…you were by no means a dork in high school and sometimes yearn for those simple days again!

…the girl that didn’t answer the phone turned out to be the kind-of-girl you would never want to spend your life with anyway!

…and the first-date you were so nervous about became the best, and last, first-date of your life, as they became the person you married!

Sometimes in the midst of our lives…even the seemingly silly and simply things in life…can become of great weight and anxiousness to us at the time. We don’t yet know how the story plays out! We can’t see 10 years past the event! We don’t know the things we are so concerned about today, in the here and now, are actually diminutive pieces in the grand puzzle of our life! And even more so, in the grand puzzle of LIFE!

Or maybe we know, but at the time, we don’t care to know. I mean, let’s face it, what we are going through today is of the present; it's happening now; and it’s a big deal! It’s stressful! It’s concerning! And it’s life-changing!

Or maybe we know, but we forget to realize. We forget we are so small. We forget this Life isn’t all about us. It is so much bigger than ourselves!

Why do the stressful and nervous times in our childhood seem so silly and insignificant now? Because we are “bigger” than that now! We have seen more! We have experienced more! We now know childhood worries are nothing compared to adult worries!

But what if we could see past the here and now? What if we could know that even adult worries are seemingly insignificant? What if we could see how the story plays out?

We can’t, but God can. And He does.

Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.

Like so many things...Easy to say. Hard to do.

This quote means even more, when you know who penned it. Corrie Ten Boom was a Christian living in the Netherlands in the midst of World War II. Although her family was not Jewish, they were sent to a prison and a concentration camp due to their involvement in hiding Jews and refuges within their home. At the end of the war, she was the only survivor of her family.

Talk about having worries…
